Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, Sandusky High School and Sandusky Middle School in Ohio will transition to virtual learning for at least the next week.
In a press release, Sandusky City Schools said that district officials and the Erie County Health Commissioner decided to transition the schools to virtual learning starting this week through at least Sept. 3. However, while the plan is to go back to in-person learning on Sept. 7, the district said plans may be updated come Labor Day.
In the interim, students will use Google Classrooms for live instruction. The middle school will also be using its YouTube channel to share school announcements each day. The press release didn’t confirm whether staff will be teaching in the classroom or remotely from their homes, but did note that district faculty and staff will be receiving direct instructions from their supervisor.
The district specifically cited a rise in COVID-19 cases at Sandusky High School and said its goal is to make COVID-19 decisions on the building-by-building format and conduct school as regularly as possible in as many cases as possible.
Since the plan was to have students attend in person, the school did designate time earlier this week for students to pick up laptops from school staff to facilitate distance learning.
