As part of the new school year, parents in Caldwell County, N.C. will be able to monitor their students’ ride to and from school with a mobile app.

The Here Comes the Bus app uses GPS technology to provide parents, guardians, and school administrators with real-time tracking and communication capabilities of school bus routes.

“We encourage all parents to participate,” said Jay McCarraher, director of Transportation for Caldwell County Schools. “Providing parents with information regarding their child’s bus ride is a top priority in the transportation department, and this program reflects our commitment to the safety and well-being of all students.”

Caldwell County Schools will deploy the new app to its fleet of 95 school buses, which cover 123 routes.

Through the app, parents can track their child’s bus ride on a map and track the actual onboarding and departure times. The school district said that the app also sends email notifications when the bus nears the bus stop, or whenever students are boarding a bus that is different from the one they have been assigned to.

The free app is available for both Apple iOS and Android operating systems.
