Robert Osmond is in line to become Delaware’s next tech chief after Gov. Matt Meyer nominated him to the positions of state chief information officer (CIO) and head of the Department of Technology and Information (DTI).
Those roles are responsible for leading the state’s technology strategy, cybersecurity, and digital services functions.
Osmond’s nomination requires confirmation by the state Senate, with a confirmation hearing tentatively scheduled for May 6.
Delaware’s gain could become Virginia’s loss; Osmond has served as the commonwealth’s CIO since 2022.
If confirmed, Osmond would succeed Jordan Schulties, who the governor’s office said will continue serving in a “senior role” within DTI.
“I am incredibly honored to be nominated by Governor Meyer as Delaware’s next CIO,” Osmond said in a social media post, adding that “there is nothing more rewarding than driving transformative change and positively impacting the lives of our friends, families, and neighbors.”
“I look forward to working with state leaders and agency partners to strengthen cybersecurity, modernize systems, and deliver reliable, user-centered digital services,” Osmond said.
“Technology is central to how we deliver services, protect critical infrastructure, and build a more responsive and efficient government,” Gov. Meyer said, adding, “Bob Osmond is a proven leader with a track record of modernizing state systems, strengthening cybersecurity, and managing large-scale IT operations.”
