Rob Lloyd, who has been the chief technology officer (CTO) and director of information technology for the city of Seattle since 2024, is stepping away from those positions to become executive director of the Center for Digital Government (CDG).
CDG, based in Folsom, Calif., is a research and advisory group focused on tech policy and best practices in state and local government.
Lloyd is set to start the new job, which includes leading CDG’s research and advisory programs, at the end of March.
Stepping in as Seattle’s interim CTO will be Tracye Cantrell, who has been the city’s assistant CTO since July 2025.
Lloyd said in a social media post that he is “looking forward to working with peers and leaders across the nation on solving the biggest challenges facing our communities, in smarter ways.”
In addition to his work in Seattle, Lloyd was chief information officer for San Jose, Calif.; CIO and chief security officer in Avondale, Ariz.; and CIO and utility director in Ashland, Ore.
