The Connecticut Department of Transportation (CTDOT) launched its new Tap & Ride pilot program, allowing passengers to pay their bus fare by tapping their Visa or Mastercard debit or credit cards, and by using their mobile wallet.  

The city of Long Beach, Calif., is looking to partner with a “qualified” organization to support its new Smart City Initiative program, the Long Beach Collaboratory (LB Co-Lab). The new initiative seeks to provide technology solutions that address neighborhood challenges sourced by community participants from four Long Beach neighborhoods.

To combat traffic crashes and deaths, Connecticut will use smart motion sensors to detect a driver entering a highway exit ramp from the wrong direction. In addition to using the sensors, the state has also launched a multi-channel public awareness campaign about the dangers of wrong-way driving.

The City of Long Beach, Calif., is launching a new Smart City Initiative – called the Long Beach Collaboratory (LB Co-Lab) – with a goal to “engage residents with civic technology design and equip them with technology skills to thrive in our ‘smart’ economy.”

The Mayor of Miami-Dade County in Florida announced that the county is beginning three new climate technology initiatives that will help cut down on wasted water, invest in ocean and climate tech, and regenerative ocean businesses, the county announced May 10.
