New Jersey’s Montclair State University has named David Chun its new chief information officer (CIO), effective May 1.

In his new role, Chun will be tasked with management, planning and program development of information technologies across all operating divisions, and will oversee all facets of the school’s Division of Information Technology and its personnel.

“David is a leader with extensive experience as a chief information officer, and is someone who has previously led the initiatives we are implementing here at Montclair State University,” said the university’s Chief Operating Officer and Senior Vice President Ben Durant. “His commitment to student success and to serving the public good, and his keen knowledge of the higher education landscape make him the ideal fit to lead the institution in this area.”

Prior to joining Montclair State University, Chun served as CIO and associate vice president at Sonoma State University. He also served as the first CIO and associate vice president at Hamline University and has held several roles at the University of Miami’s Herbert Business School.

“I am honored to join the Montclair State University community, where technology fuels educational excellence, research and social mobility,” said Chun. “My wife, Wendy, and I share many of Montclair’s core values of serving the public interest and advancing student success. We are very pleased to return to the tri-state area.”

When he takes over the Division of Information Technology, Chun will be responsible for all enterprise information technologies across the university’s 252-acre campus. This will include: enterprise solutions such as wired and wireless networks and information security, enterprise applications including Montclair’s student information system, finance, human resources and payroll, application portal, and identity and access management system, as well as technical support services for students, faculty and staff.
