The International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE) has announced new board members.
The nonprofit, which is focused on supporting the use of technology to accelerate innovation in education, announced the results of its board of directors election earlier this month. Newly elected board members are Cathy Collins, technology specialist at Sharon Public Schools, and Sophia Mendoza, director of the instructional technology initiative at Los Angeles Unified School District. Thuan Nguyen, chief operating officer of Advancement Via Individual Determination, also joined the ISTE board in July.
In a press release, ISTE provided short bios for each of the new Board members. In her 23-year career, Collins has worked as a library media and technology specialist at the K-12 level. She is currently a technology teacher at Sharon Middle School in North Easton, Mass., where she teaches engineering and design. Mendoza, who has had a 20-year career in education, serves as an education leader in the Los Angeles Unified School District. She recently spearheaded the implementation of computer science education and digital citizenship programs across 1,300 schools. Bringing experience from the private sector, Nguyen has had a range of executive roles in IT, instructional technology, and safety and security. He has also worked in schools, having served as assistant superintendent and chief digital strategy officer for Kent School District in Washington.
Michael McVey, professor at Eastern Michigan University, who currently serves as the secretary, was re-elected to the ISTE board of directors.
The new term will begin on January 1, 2021. Departing from the board in January will be: Hall Davidson, senior director, global learning initiatives at Discovery Education; Julianne Ross-Kleinmann, model schools instructional specialist at Ulster County BOCES; and Ed Snow, assistant director of instructional technology services at Wisconsin Department of Instruction.
