The City of Houston is launching a new government technology initiative that will provide more transparency on how the city uses funds.
Mayor Sylvester Turner announced that residents of Houston will now be able to use the Open Finance program to track money spent by the city.
“Open Finance allows citizen advocates to stay informed and gain access to the same information stakeholders and government leaders use to make decisions in the day-to-day operations of local government,” Mayor Turner said. “This initiative is another significant step toward improving public engagement and building awareness of the City’s financial activities.”
The initiative will include three different phrases that will include uploading different datasets on the budget of the city, the payroll of the city’s employees, and a detailed portal on all the city’s expenditures.
This initiative will also allow residents to view all this information through the use of different analytical tools that can simplify the data being imported on Open Finance.
Some of the information is already available and will continually be updated in the future to add more data entries.
