Dan Cronin, the former vice president of engineering for hotel chain Marriott International, has been appointed as the new chief information officer (CIO) of Oklahoma.

In addition to his appointment to the new role in January, Cronin’s experience includes holding various IT and engineering leadership roles at Allstate Insurance Company and ZF Automative Group in addition to the hotel chain. He has over 20 years of IT experience, according to his biography on the Oklahoma Office of Management and Enterprise Services website.

In his previous role he oversaw “end-to end accountability for public clouds, software and product engineering, platform and infrastructure engineering, FinOps and cost optimization, data centers and migrations, and enterprise observability,” according to his LinkedIn profile.

He has also “successfully steered engineering teams to optimize costs, implement automation and foster innovation, contributing to measurable organizational outcomes,” reads his OMES biography.

Cronin entered the role after the state had been without a CIO for several months following the abrupt departure of Joe McIntosh, the former CIO. McIntosh left the role after working in it for 16 months, paying $2,500 before leaving for two ethics violations that he self-reported for a “misuse of office” and impartiality.

Cronin received his Bachelor of Applied Science from Arizona State University’s school of engineering.
