The Chicago Office of the Mayor and the City of Chicago’s Office of Budget and Management (OBM) have launched the Workforce Vacancy Data Dashboard on OBM’s website. The new interactive tool provides an accessible, user-friendly way to explore and filter vacancy data across all city departments.

“Transparency and accountability are at the heart of this administration,” Mayor Brandon Johnson said.  “By making this workforce data public, we are holding ourselves accountable and equipping our communities with the tools to demand better from their government. This initiative reflects our commitment to a more just, responsive, and people-centered city where budget decisions are driven by transparency and the needs of our residents, not bureaucracy.”

The mayor’s office noted that the data will be updated on the first of each month and publicly available in an intuitive format that enhances visibility and usability. Additionally, the underlying data is available on the City of Chicago’s Open Data Portal for those who need full datasets.

“The launch of our monthly Workforce Vacancy Data Dashboard marks a significant milestone in our transparency efforts,” said Budget Director Annette Guzman. “This tool will provide essential insights into our city’s staffing landscape, enabling more informed decisions and strategic planning for the budget season ahead.”

The new dashboard is designed to enhance transparency and accountability across city departments. The mayor’s office noted that the new dashboard not only aligns with data transparency best practices but also responds directly to aldermanic requests for enhanced accessibility to budget data.

The new tool gives city officials the ability to better evaluate staffing and key financial insights ahead of the annual budget season.

“Having access to this information is a game-changer,” said 28th Ward Alderman and Committee of Budget and Government Operations Chairman Jason Ervin. “It equips us with the insight needed to understand our workforce hiring trends and better allocate resources during the budget process. I’m excited about the positive impact the release of this data will have on our communities.”
