Seattle has opened the application period for its 2024 Digital Equity Grant. Grants are available for non-profits and community groups that are working to close the digital divide across the city.
This round of grant funding will provide up to $35,000 to qualifying non-profit organizations and community groups in Seattle for digital equity projects. The city said in a press release that a total of $545,000 is available for the Technology Matching Fund (TMF) and Digital Navigator Grant.
The city further noted that city dollars are matched by the community’s contribution of volunteer labor, materials, professional services, or cash. For the digital equity grant program, community match requirement is 25 percent of the funding request.
In the press release, the city said that projects should aim to increase internet access and adoption by providing:
- Digital navigator services: Provide assistance in person, virtually, or via phone/text/email to help residents use their devices, connect to the internet, and sign up for low-cost internet plans.
- Digital literacy classes/workshops: Provide digital literacy skills training to new technology users.
- Devices and technical support: Provide devices and the support needed to use them effectively.
- Internet connectivity: Provide internet to low-income residents by expanding Wi-Fi or another means.
The city said it is hosting virtual grant information sessions throughout the fall for interested applicants.
The digital equity grant program, including the Technology Matching Fund and the Digital Navigator Grant, are part of the Seattle Information Department (Seattle IT) Digital Equity Program.
Applications are due Nov. 9, 2023 and winners will be notified in February 2024.
