An IT system failure at the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) has left many GI Bill recipients without their expected payments for school and housing, and the government shutdown has shuttered the GI Bill hotline meant to help those affected.

Veterans living in rural America are being left behind by Federal healthcare systems due to shortages of robust broadband services and limited telehealth access, lawmakers and witnesses warned on July 25 during a field hearing of the House Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Technology Modernization.

The White House announced that it’s launching the Data Driven Justice initiative, which intends to use data to decrease prison recidivism and improve response and care for at-risk and mentally ill citizens.
