The Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) has kicked off the installation process for the Continuously Operating Reference Stations (CORS) network, which will help improve the accuracy of location data used for surveying, mapping, construction, and engineering, as well as a host of other applications.

TheĀ grant programĀ that is offering state and local governments $500 million for projects that will utilize smart technologies to improve transportation will begin the awarding process this month.

In the near future, 8,000 new residents of Treasure Island, Calif., will travel around the island in buses that drive themselves, according to plans outlined by the city of San Francisco. The project will be funded through a U. S. Department of Transportation award for smart city projects.
