The Virginia Information Technologies Agency (VITA) has announced the completion of a project that moved the Commonwealth of Virginia’s enterprise data center from a traditional site to a modernized, cloud-ready platform.

Cloud computing exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic as state and local entities went virtual and focused on the delivery of digital services, but seven years ago when the Commonwealth of Massachusetts decided to shift to the cloud there was hesitancy, the state’s technology lead said.

Reps. Rosa DeLauro, D-Conn., and Joe Kennedy III, D-Mass., introduced the We Need Eviction Data Now Act (H.R. 7743) on July 23 to direct the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) to create a database of eviction records.

A decade after its initial data center consolidation survey, the National Association of State Chief Information Officers (NASCIO) released Shrinking Data Centers Playbook as an update on state efforts to consolidate and optimize data centers. The report shares best practices and recommendations to states that are still consolidating.
